PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Mushroom Fellowship invites the viewer into the hidden world that flourishes across the damp forest floor, where life unfolds on a miniature scale beneath towering eucalypts. Three Common Eastern Froglets occupy the scene, each quietly inhabiting its own corner of this richly textured woodland. A soft green froglet rests upon a cushion of vibrant moss, a mottled brown individual pauses within a shallow rain-filled pool, and a charcoal-grey froglet clings delicately to a fern frond, suspended above the water as a single droplet gathers below. Together they reveal the remarkable diversity concealed within one of Australia's smallest amphibians.
Cool mist drifts through the understory, softening the distant forest while scattered mushrooms emerge among fallen leaves and moss-covered logs. The subdued palette of deep greens, earthy browns, and cool greys is gently enlivened by glistening water droplets and subtle reflections across the puddle's surface. The balanced arrangement of the three froglets creates a quiet visual narrative, celebrating the intricate beauty and overlooked richness of the woodland microhabitats that sustain countless small creatures.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Common Eastern Froglet (Crinia signifera)
The Common Eastern Froglet (Crinia signifera) is one of Australia's smallest yet most variable amphibians. Adults rarely exceed three centimetres in length, but individuals can differ remarkably in colour and pattern, ranging from bright olive-green to mottled brown, grey, tan, or almost black. This natural variation allows the species to blend effectively with mosses, leaf litter, bark, rocks, and wet soil, providing excellent camouflage across the diverse habitats it occupies.
Another defining characteristic is its distinctive breeding call. During wet weather, males produce a sharp repetitive clicking sound, often likened to two pebbles being tapped together. These choruses can continue for hours after rain, filling wetlands, roadside drains, forest pools, and temporary puddles with one of the most familiar sounds of southeastern Australia's amphibian communities. Although often heard more readily than seen, the Common Eastern Froglet plays an important role in forest and wetland ecosystems by consuming large numbers of small invertebrates while providing food for birds, reptiles, and larger amphibians.

The Common Eastern Froglet remains one of Australia's most abundant native frogs and is currently classified as Least Concern. Its ability to breed in temporary pools, roadside drains, garden ponds, and natural wetlands has allowed it to persist across a wide range of environments, including many landscapes modified by human activity. This adaptability has helped maintain stable populations throughout much of its distribution.
Despite its widespread status, the species still depends on healthy freshwater habitats. Wetland drainage, declining water quality, prolonged drought, habitat fragmentation, and the spread of amphibian diseases can reduce local populations, particularly where breeding sites become isolated or degraded. Conserving seasonal wetlands, vegetated waterways, and natural drainage systems benefits this species and the many other animals that share these ecosystems. As one of Australia's most familiar frog calls after rain, the Common Eastern Froglet also serves as a valuable indicator of healthy freshwater environments and the ecological richness of the forest floor.

Our fine art and canvas prints are produced to order, allowing each piece to be carefully prepared and checked before leaving the studio. As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
