The Morning Leap captures one of the most iconic sights in the Australian landscape: an Eastern Grey Kangaroo suspended effortlessly above a dew-covered grassland at first light. Bathed in the soft gold of sunrise, the powerful marsupial appears almost weightless as it bounds across the open clearing, its muscular hind legs fully extended and its long tail perfectly balancing each movement. A delicate veil of morning mist lingers above the ground while scattered eucalyptus trees fade gently into the background, creating a quiet sense of depth and space. The Eastern Grey Kangaroo (Macropus giganteus)
Is Australia's largest native marsupial and one of the country's most recognisable wildlife species. Found throughout eastern and south-eastern Australia, it inhabits open forests, grassy woodlands, heathlands, farmland and coastal reserves where abundant grazing supports healthy populations. Its adaptability has made it one of Australia's most successful native mammals and an enduring symbol of the Australian landscape.
One of the kangaroo's most remarkable adaptations is its unique method of movement. Rather than running, it travels by powerful hopping, storing energy within the elastic tendons of its hind legs and releasing it with each bound. As speed increases, this system becomes remarkably efficient, allowing kangaroos to travel long distances while conserving energy. Their muscular tail provides balance during hopping and acts as a powerful fifth limb when moving slowly.
This extraordinary combination of strength, endurance and efficiency has allowed Eastern Grey Kangaroos to thrive across an enormous range of environments. Whether crossing open grasslands at dawn or moving between patches of woodland, their distinctive leap remains one of the defining images of Australia's wildlife.

The Eastern Grey Kangaroo is currently classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List and is not listed as threatened under Australia's national environmental legislation. Healthy populations remain widespread throughout eastern and south-eastern Australia, occupying forests, woodlands, grasslands and many agricultural landscapes.
Although the species remains abundant, local populations can still experience pressures from habitat fragmentation, prolonged drought, severe bushfires and increasing urban expansion. Vehicle collisions are also a significant cause of mortality where roads intersect traditional movement corridors.
Wildlife managers continue to monitor kangaroo populations to maintain healthy ecosystems while balancing conservation with agriculture and expanding communities. Protecting habitat connectivity and preserving native vegetation will help ensure the Eastern Grey Kangaroo remains one of Australia's most enduring wildlife success stories.

Our fine art and canvas prints are produced to order, allowing each piece to be carefully prepared and checked before leaving the studio. We use Australia Post for all domestic and international shipping, with delivery times varying according to destination, carrier demand and customs process where applicable. As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
