The Meadow Tuxedo celebrates the bold elegance of the Dutch Rabbit as it rests among flowering clover, moss-covered timber, and fresh meadow grasses beneath the gentle warmth of early morning light. Positioned prominently within the composition, the rabbit immediately draws the eye through the striking contrast of its glossy black coat and brilliant white markings. The Dutch Rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus)
The Dutch Rabbit is among the oldest established fancy rabbit breeds and has long been admired for its instantly recognisable colour pattern. Although early stock originated in the Netherlands, much of the breed's refinement took place in Britain during the nineteenth century, where breeders carefully standardised the distinctive arrangement of white and coloured markings that defines the breed today. This combination of precise patterning and compact proportions quickly established the Dutch Rabbit as a favourite in rabbit exhibitions throughout Europe and beyond.
Breed standards place considerable emphasis on the symmetry and sharp definition of the characteristic markings. The clean white blaze, rounded facial pattern, white shoulders, forelegs, and saddle line must balance harmoniously with the contrasting coloured sections of the body, creating the breed's unmistakable appearance. Alongside this visual precision, the Dutch Rabbit is appreciated for its lively yet gentle temperament, making it equally suited to exhibition and life as a companion animal.
