The Gorge King celebrates the immense size, quiet confidence, and rugged beauty of Australia's largest monitor lizard. Set amongst the fractured rock shelves of a remote outback gorge, a magnificent Perentie pauses to survey its surroundings beneath the warm glow of the afternoon sun. Weathered sandstone, hardy grasses, and twisted desert shrubs frame the scene, while ancient cliff faces fade into the shimmering heat beyond.
The composition conveys both strength and composure. Powerful limbs and long curved claws grip the rocky ledges with effortless precision as the Perentie extends its forked tongue to sample the dry desert air. The Perentie (Varanus giganteus)
The Perentie is Australia's largest monitor lizard and among the biggest lizards in the world, inhabiting the deserts, rocky ranges, and rugged gorges of central and western Australia. Built for endurance, it combines powerful limbs, keen eyesight, and an exceptional sense of smell to actively search for prey across vast arid landscapes rather than relying solely on ambush.
Its beautifully patterned skin provides effective camouflage amongst sandstone, spinifex, and desert scrub, while its long tail assists with balance as it climbs rocky outcrops and escarpments. Perenties are highly intelligent, curious reptiles that readily investigate their surroundings and exploit a wide variety of food sources, including reptiles, birds, mammals, eggs, and carrion. For thousands of years they have also held cultural significance for many Aboriginal peoples, featuring in traditional knowledge, stories, and connections to Country. This remarkable combination of adaptability, intelligence, and resilience has established the Perentie as one of the defining predators of Australia's arid interior.

The Perentie (Varanus giganteus) is currently classified as Least Concern by the IUCN Red List and is not listed as threatened nationally in Australia. Its extensive distribution across remote deserts, rocky ranges, and arid woodlands has helped maintain stable populations throughout much of its natural range.
Although generally secure, local populations can be affected by habitat degradation, inappropriate fire regimes, mining activity, road mortality, and predation on eggs and juveniles by introduced foxes and feral cats. Because Perenties depend on healthy desert ecosystems and intact rocky refuges for shelter, breeding, and hunting, the protection of these landscapes remains important. Continued conservation of Australia's arid environments will help ensure the long-term survival of this iconic apex reptile and one of the nation's most impressive native predators.

As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
