The Emerald Saddle celebrates the vibrant beauty, perfect symmetry, and quiet elegance of the Green Tree Python. Resting in its unmistakable saddle-shaped posture upon a moss-covered rainforest branch, the python forms a living sculpture among the emerald foliage of Australia's tropical north. Soft shafts of filtered sunlight descend through the canopy, illuminating drifting mist, delicate ferns, and ancient mosses that cloak the surrounding forest.
Its brilliant green scales glow against the darker rainforest backdrop, scattered with subtle ivory and yellow markings that blend naturally with the dappled light. BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Green Tree Python (Morelia viridis)
The Green Tree Python is a highly specialised, non-venomous constrictor native to the tropical rainforests of Cape York Peninsula, New Guinea, and eastern Indonesia. Living almost entirely among the branches, it has evolved one of the most distinctive resting postures of any snake, looping its body neatly over a branch with its head positioned at the centre of its coils.
One of its most remarkable characteristics is its dramatic colour transformation during growth. Hatchlings emerge bright yellow or brick red before gradually changing to the brilliant emerald-green colouration of adulthood. Equipped with heat-sensitive pits along the jaws, Green Tree Pythons rely on patience and camouflage to ambush birds, reptiles, and small mammals from concealed perches within the rainforest canopy. This artwork celebrates one of nature's finest examples of arboreal adaptation, revealing a species perfectly shaped for life high above the forest floor.

The Green Tree Python is currently classified as Least Concern by the IUCN Red List, reflecting its broad distribution across New Guinea, eastern Indonesia, and northern Australia. However, some regional populations face greater conservation challenges. In Queensland, the species is listed as Near Threatened, while the isolated Biak Island population is considered Vulnerable because of its restricted range.
The greatest threats include rainforest clearing, habitat fragmentation, and illegal collection for the international wildlife trade. Although the species is protected in Australia and listed under CITES Appendix II, wild populations in parts of Indonesia remain vulnerable to unsustainable collection. Continued protection of tropical rainforest habitats, enforcement of wildlife trade regulations, and responsible captive breeding programs remain essential for safeguarding this remarkable arboreal python throughout its natural range.

As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
