The Diamond Mosaic celebrates the intricate beauty, quiet strength, and graceful presence of the Diamond Carpet Python. Resting high upon a moss-covered rainforest branch, the python drapes its powerful body across ancient timber as soft shafts of golden sunlight filter through towering tree ferns. Rich emerald mosses, trailing lichens, and drifting mist surround the scene, creating an atmosphere of timeless tranquillity within Australia's temperate rainforest.
The snake's striking pattern of cream, olive, and charcoal markings forms a living mosaic against the weathered bark, while its golden eye watches calmly from within the coils. The Diamond Carpet Python (Morelia spilota spilota)
The Diamond Carpet Python is a large, non-venomous constrictor native to the forests, woodlands, heathlands, and rocky escarpments of southeastern Australia. Named for its distinctive diamond-shaped patterning, this striking python is superbly camouflaged among dappled sunlight, moss-covered branches, and forest leaf litter. Its muscular body and partially prehensile tail allow it to climb with remarkable agility, enabling it to hunt and shelter both in the canopy and on the ground.
Although primarily nocturnal, Diamond Carpet Pythons often bask in filtered sunlight to regulate their body temperature before retreating into tree hollows, rock crevices, or dense vegetation. Feeding on birds, mammals, and reptiles, they play an important ecological role by helping regulate populations of small vertebrates, particularly rodents. Their calm disposition and impressive adaptability have made them one of Australia's most recognisable native pythons and an enduring symbol of the country's temperate forests.

The Diamond Carpet Python is currently classified as Least Concern by the IUCN Red List and remains widespread throughout much of southeastern Australia. However, some regional populations face increasing conservation challenges. In Victoria, the subspecies is listed as Endangered, with numbers continuing to decline, while populations around Sydney are under growing pressure from urban expansion and habitat fragmentation.
The loss of mature forests, hollow-bearing trees, and connected vegetation corridors reduces essential shelter, basking sites, and breeding habitat. Road mortality, persecution through misunderstanding, and predation by domestic animals also affect local populations near urban areas. Continued protection of native forests, restoration of habitat connectivity, and public education about the ecological importance of large non-venomous pythons remain vital for securing the future of this remarkable Australian reptile.

Our fine art and canvas prints are produced to order, allowing each piece to be carefully prepared and checked before leaving the studio. We use Australia Post for all domestic and international shipping, with delivery times varying according to destination, carrier demand and customs process where applicable. As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
