The Cobalt Scout celebrates the rugged charm, steady confidence, and unmistakable personality of one of Australia's most familiar reptiles. Resting upon a sun-warmed sandstone outcrop at the edge of a native woodland, an Eastern Blue-Tongued Skink pauses mid-journey, extending its brilliant cobalt-blue tongue into the afternoon air. The vivid flash of colour contrasts beautifully with the earthy tones of weathered stone, dry eucalyptus leaves, and native grasses that surround it.

The Eastern Blue-Tongued Skink (Tiliqua scincoides)
The Eastern Blue-Tongued Skink is one of Australia's most recognisable reptiles, inhabiting woodlands, forests, grasslands, coastal scrub, farmland, and suburban gardens throughout eastern and southeastern Australia. Its most distinctive feature is its vivid blue tongue, which is displayed alongside hissing and body inflation to startle predators into retreat.
Unlike many reptiles, Blue-Tongued Skinks give birth to fully developed live young rather than laying eggs, an adaptation that provides newborns with a greater chance of survival. They are also highly adaptable omnivores, feeding on insects, snails, slugs, flowers, fruits, and other plant material. Their appetite for garden pests makes them valuable allies in many backyards, while their calm temperament has helped make them one of Australia's most admired native lizards. This combination of adaptability, unique defences, and gentle disposition has secured the Blue-Tongued Skink a special place in Australia's natural heritage.

The Eastern Blue-Tongued Skink (Tiliqua scincoides) is currently classified as Least Concern by the IUCN Red List and is not considered threatened across most of its Australian range. Its adaptability to both natural habitats and modified landscapes has allowed healthy populations to persist throughout much of eastern and southeastern Australia.
Although generally secure, local populations can be affected by habitat fragmentation, road mortality, domestic cats and dogs, illegal collection, and the loss of native ground cover that provides shelter and nesting sites. Public education and wildlife-friendly gardening practices, including retaining natural vegetation and avoiding unnecessary persecution, continue to support this much-loved reptile. As both a predator of pest invertebrates and an important member of Australia's bushland ecosystems, the Eastern Blue-Tongued Skink remains one of the country's most familiar and valued native lizards.

As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
