The Australian Shepherd was largely developed in the United States during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, despite its misleading name. Its ancestry is closely linked to the highly skilled herding dogs that accompanied Basque shepherds, some of whom travelled through Australia before settling in North America, giving rise to the breed's enduring name. Across the expansive ranches of the American West, the Australian Shepherd quickly established itself as an exceptional stock dog, prized for its intelligence, agility, and instinctive ability to manage sheep, cattle, and other livestock across vast and often demanding landscapes.
These remarkable working qualities become apparent from an early age. Australian Shepherd puppies are naturally inquisitive and quick to learn, displaying an eagerness to observe movement and engage with their surroundings. As they mature, they develop the athletic build, sharp intelligence, and tireless work ethic that have made the breed one of the world's most versatile herding dogs. Even in their senior years, many retain the alertness, loyalty, and strong partnership with their handlers that have defined the breed for generations.
Today, responsible breeding programs focus on preserving the Australian Shepherd's genetic diversity, sound structure, instinctive herding ability, athleticism, and balanced temperament. Our fine art and canvas prints are produced to order, allowing each piece to be carefully prepared and checked before leaving the studio. We use Australia Post for all domestic and international shipping, with delivery times varying according to destination, carrier demand and customs process where applicable. As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
