The Appaloosa's Watch is an intimate portrait that draws the viewer into the quiet presence and distinctive character of the Appaloosa horse. BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Appaloosa (Equus caballus) although its colourful coat attracts immediate attention, the Appaloosa possesses several unique physical characteristics that distinguish it from other horse breeds. Four identifying traits are traditionally recognised by breed organisations: mottled skin around the muzzle, eyes, and genital regions; vertically striped hooves; visible white sclera surrounding the eye; and the presence of Leopard Complex coat patterning. Together, these features create the unmistakable appearance that has become synonymous with the breed.
Beyond these distinctive markings, the Appaloosa is admired for its balanced conformation, strong limbs, and athletic build. Developed for practical performance rather than ornamentation, the breed combines agility with endurance and sure-footedness across varied terrain. These physical attributes reflect generations of selective breeding focused on producing horses capable of meeting the demanding needs of their riders. While coat patterns vary enormously between individuals, these shared anatomical characteristics unite Appaloosas under a common breed identity recognised throughout the world.

As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
