Willie Wagtail (Rhipidura leucophrys)
The Willie Wagtail is Australia's largest and most widespread fantail, occurring across almost every habitat on the continent, from tropical wetlands and forests to deserts, farmland, suburban gardens, and remote inland waterways. Instantly recognised by its crisp black-and-white plumage, expressive white eyebrow, and constantly fanned tail, it is among Australia's most familiar native birds.
Although small in stature, the Willie Wagtail is an exceptionally skilled aerial hunter. It spends much of the day darting from low perches to capture insects in flight before returning to the same lookout, constantly wagging and spreading its tail as it forages. Equally renowned for its fearless temperament, it readily challenges birds many times its own size, including ravens, kookaburras, magpies, and birds of prey when defending its territory. This remarkable confidence, combined with its lively calls and energetic behaviour, has earned the Willie Wagtail a cherished place in Australian folklore and made it one of the country's most admired backyard birds.

The Willie Wagtail is currently classified as Least Concern and remains widespread and abundant throughout Australia. Its adaptability has enabled it to thrive across an extraordinary range of habitats, including forests, wetlands, woodlands, agricultural districts, urban parks, gardens, and arid inland environments. The species is protected under Australian wildlife legislation and is not currently considered threatened.
While populations remain healthy, local declines can occur where native vegetation is removed or insect populations are reduced through habitat degradation and pesticide use. Predation by domestic and feral cats, along with the loss of riparian vegetation around waterways and breeding sites, can also affect local breeding success. Maintaining healthy native habitats, preserving vegetation corridors, and supporting abundant insect populations will help ensure that the Willie Wagtail continues to enliven Australia's landscapes with its energetic displays, fearless nature, and unmistakable song for generations to come.

We use Australia Post for all domestic and international shipping, with delivery times varying according to destination, carrier demand and customs process where applicable. As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
