PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
King of the Karoo centres upon a mature Boer buck standing on a rocky outcrop above the vast plains of southern Africa. His broad body and firmly planted stance create a powerful focal point against the open horizon, while his head turns slightly towards the viewer with a calm, measured expression. Sweeping horns curve backwards from the crown, framing his chestnut face and long pendulous ears. The bright white body, deep russet neck, and narrow blaze across the forehead form the distinctive pattern associated with the breed.
The final light of day strikes the buck from below and behind, laying warm gold across his chest, legs, and beard. Subtle highlights follow the ridged surfaces of the horns, while the opposite side of the body settles into softer shadow. Beneath him, fractured stone, dry stems, and scattered shrubs establish the harsh texture of the foreground. Dusty plains, isolated acacias, and distant tablelands recede beneath a sky of copper, amber, and muted violet, giving the solitary figure an atmosphere of stillness, authority, and enduring presence.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Boer goat (Capra hircus)
The Boer goat was developed in South Africa from locally adapted goats maintained by pastoral farmers and from other livestock influences introduced to the region over time. By the early twentieth century, breeders were selecting more consistently for a white body, coloured head, strong frame, rapid growth, and suitability for meat production. The name derives from the Afrikaans word boer, meaning farmer.
Breeding bucks played a decisive role in establishing these qualities. Because one male could sire many offspring within a season, his structure, growth rate, fertility, and inherited characteristics could shape a herd for years. Farmers therefore examined prospective sires for sound feet and legs, width through the body, balanced muscling, healthy reproductive development, and the ability to remain active under extensive conditions.
Modern selection continues to recognise that size alone does not define a valuable buck. Longevity, ease of movement, temperament, and the quality of his offspring are equally important. The mature Boer sire represents the concentrated influence of generations of livestock judgement, linking the practical breeding decisions of South African farmers with herds now established throughout the world.
