PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Dancing Locks captures a lively group of young Suri alpacas at play within a bright, flower-filled mountain meadow. At the centre of the composition, one cria springs forward with all four feet lifted above the grass, while another follows closely behind. Two companions stand nearby, watching the activity with upright ears and curious expressions as the energetic movement unfolds around them.
Their youthful coats display soft shades of ivory, honey, chestnut, and silver-grey. Although still short and age-appropriate, the fibre is beginning to separate into fine, loose strands that hint at the flowing locks of adulthood. Clear sunlight outlines the young bodies and illuminates purple lupins, yellow blossoms, and fresh green grasses scattered across the meadow. Behind them, immense snow-covered peaks rise beneath a brilliant blue sky, providing a dramatic contrast to the playful scene below. The composition combines movement with clarity, allowing each cria to retain an individual presence within the group. Filled with curiosity and confidence, the artwork celebrates the active early life through which young Suris develop coordination, social awareness, and familiarity with their mountain environment.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Suri Alpaca (Vicugna pacos)
Young alpacas commonly express their energy through running, leaping, chasing, and sudden group movements. These behaviours strengthen muscles, improve balance, and help crias develop the coordination needed to travel confidently across uneven highland terrain.
Play also contributes to social development. By interacting with animals of a similar age, crias practise herd signals, test personal boundaries, and establish relationships that may continue as they mature. These lively gatherings occur within the security of the wider herd, where adults remain nearby and provide familiar behavioural cues.
The Suri coat begins changing as the cria grows. Newborn fibre is soft and relatively short, but it gradually separates into more recognisable locks as length develops. Breeders observe the uniformity, lustre, fineness, and organisation of these emerging strands while also assessing health, structure, and temperament. No single youthful fleece can guarantee adult quality, making continued observation essential. Each thriving cria nevertheless represents an opportunity to preserve the characteristics that distinguish the Suri and to maintain sufficient diversity within a less numerous alpaca type.

We use Australia Post for all domestic and international shipping, with delivery times varying according to destination, carrier demand and customs process where applicable. As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
