Coastal Bonds is a heartfelt portrait of motherhood, protection, and the enduring connection between generations. Standing together among the windswept heath of the Shetland Islands, a mare and her young foal overlook the rugged coastline that has shaped their breed for centuries. The mare's compact, sturdy form reflects the resilience for which Shetland Ponies are renowned, while the foal nestles confidently at her side, sheltered by her reassuring presence. Beyond them, dramatic sea cliffs descend toward the restless Atlantic, placing this quiet family moment within one of Britain's most untamed landscapes. Though the scenery is expansive and rugged, the composition remains focused on the gentle relationship between mother and offspring, celebrating the instinctive trust that lies at the heart of every new generation.

The Shetland Pony (Equus ferus caballus), the future of every Shetland Pony begins with the close relationship between mare and foal. From their earliest days, young ponies learn by observing their mothers, gradually acquiring the behaviours needed to survive within the exposed landscapes of the Shetland Islands. Grazing habits, movement across rocky ground, social interaction, and responses to changing weather are all passed naturally from one generation to the next.
For centuries, maintaining strong bloodlines was essential to the island communities that relied upon these remarkable ponies for transport, crofting, and daily work. Their intelligence, resilience, and dependable temperament ensured that each new generation continued the qualities that had allowed the breed to flourish despite limited resources and demanding environmental conditions.
Coastal Bonds honours this quiet continuity of life. By focusing on the protective relationship between mare and foal, the artwork celebrates the enduring process through which knowledge, resilience, and the remarkable heritage of the Shetland Pony are carried forward across generations.

We use Australia Post for all domestic and international shipping, with delivery times varying according to destination, carrier demand and customs process where applicable. As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
