Bush Titan celebrates the commanding presence and prehistoric elegance of one of Australia's largest native lizards. Bathed in warm afternoon light, a powerful Lace Monitor climbs the weathered trunk of a towering eucalyptus, its muscular body gripping the bark with effortless confidence as it surveys the surrounding bushland. Golden dust lingers in the still air while shafts of sunlight illuminate the intricate cream and charcoal markings that give the species its distinctive lace-like pattern.
The composition highlights both strength and agility. Massive curved claws anchor securely into the timber while the monitor's forked tongue flicks outward, gathering scent particles carried on the breeze. BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Lace Monitor (Varanus varius)
The Lace Monitor is Australia's second-largest monitor lizard and one of its most capable climbers. Found throughout the forests, woodlands, and coastal ranges of eastern Australia, it spends much of its life navigating towering eucalyptus trees using powerful limbs, long curved claws, and a muscular tail that provides balance while climbing.
Although equally comfortable on the ground, trees provide important refuges for basking, nesting, and escaping danger. Juveniles spend much of their early lives in the canopy, where their agility offers protection from predators. Lace Monitors are also highly intelligent reptiles, using their exceptional sense of smell and forked tongue to investigate their surroundings and locate food over considerable distances. This combination of strength, curiosity, and climbing ability has made them one of Australia's most successful reptilian predators and a familiar sight in healthy forest ecosystems.

The Lace Monitor is currently classified as Least Concern by the IUCN Red List and is not nationally threatened in Australia, with stable populations persisting across much of eastern Australia. However, its conservation status varies considerably at a regional level. Southern populations have experienced declines, with the species listed as Endangered in Victoria and the South East of South Australia, while some northern South Australian populations are recognised as Vulnerable.
Local threats include habitat clearing, fragmentation of mature forests, road mortality, illegal persecution, and predation on eggs and juveniles by introduced foxes and feral cats. In parts of northern Australia, invasive Cane Toads also pose a significant risk, as monitors may be fatally poisoned after attempting to consume them. Protecting mature forest habitat, retaining hollow-bearing trees, and controlling invasive species remain important for the long-term conservation of this iconic Australian goanna.

We use Australia Post for all domestic and international shipping, with delivery times varying according to destination, carrier demand and customs process where applicable. As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
